OUSTER NASH - I Am the Sun [2025, LP, Fear Icon Records]

When this full length album finally comes out it will rock you very hard. We recorded it last year and I love it. So far, two killer singles and videos have been released. See below. Follow them on social media and all that and go to their shows. One of the best bands in Brooklyn now! -TH

“‘I Am the Sun’ is what Grendel would’ve had in his earpods whilst battling Beowulf and wreaking havoc on the land of Danes” - Gillian Visco (guitarist)

The first song on the upcoming album of the same name, ‘I Am the Sun’ is slower than Ouster’s usual songs: grinding and psychedelic. Taking a page out of Ben Waller’s(Country Teasers) book, the lyrics are written from the perspective of man’s worst nature. The character is all Id, flipping between self aggrandizement and intense self pity, desiring to be seen as omniscient, and to not be seen at all. The final verse screamed out desperately: “I got a big boy job and it's payin’ the rent; got many things in my pocket, and it’s not just lint!” is the last vestige of the character's persona clinging on, failing to convince even himself.

single #2: BLENDER

Ouster Nash’s latest single, "Blender," is yet another chaotic dispatch from Brooklyn's eternally angst-ridden punk scene. Frontman Zack Booth leans fully into nihilistic whimsy with lines like, "I microwave the metal, put my hand in a blender," because apparently existential dread hits hardest when you're barely out of middle school. Pairing relentlessly catchy hooks and blink-and-you'll-miss-them guitar solos with their reliably frenetic rhythm section, the band crafts a pop-punk anthem that sounds way too fun for how grim it actually is. It's energetic, melodic, and just depressive enough to make you dance ironically at your own emotional collapse.

lyrics

I’m gonna kill it now
I’m on a mission from the one
A fever I can’t crack
return to dust under the sun

I microwave the metal
Put my hand in a blender
Shattered glass in the shaker
I’m gonna play bartender

Meet halfway down the street
There’s no time to run and hide
Show off my brand new teeth
I’ll bite into the sewer line

I barely feel the fire
The smell is neverending
Collecting thoughts and feelings
So I can keep pretending

I microwave the metal
Put my hand in a blender
Shattered glass in the shaker
I’m gonna play bartender

I barely feel the fire
The smell is neverending
Collecting thoughts and feelings
So I can keep pretending
